Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup Recipe
You can make your own homemade cream of chicken soup with just a few simple ingredients and about 5 minutes of cook time.
Cream of chicken soup is a pantry staple that I don’t want to be without. It can be used to make many different soups, casseroles, and other creamy dishes. My homemade version is much tastier and healthier than the canned stuff… Don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself!
Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup Recipe
This cream soup base can be made into many different condensed soup flavors: cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, cream of mushroom soup, you name it. Simply switch out the flavoring ingredient.
Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup Ingredients
- 2 TBSP butter
- 2 TBSP flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 chicken bouillon cube and 1/2 cup water
- OR ½ cup bone broth/chicken stock
- Redmond Real Salt & black pepper to taste
Directions
STEP 1
Dissolve the chicken bouillon cube in ½ cup of warm water before starting. *You can use ½ cup chicken stock, chicken broth, or bone broth in place of a bouillon mix if you prefer.
STEP 2
Melt the room temperature butter in a small sauce pan over medium-high heat.
STEP 3
Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour 1 TBSP at a time. Whisk and cook over low heat until it is thick and clumpy…about 30 seconds (it should look just like it does when making gravy).
STEP 4
Now you can gradually whisk in the milk and then the chicken bouillon mix.
STEP 5
5. Add Redmond Real Salt & black pepper to taste. Continue to cook and whisk the cream of chicken soup over low heat.
STEP 6
6. The milk mixture will thicken up as you whisk. Remove it from heat when it has reached the consistency that you want.
I add my homemade cream of chicken soup to all of our family favorite recipes like poppyseed chicken, chicken and dumplings, creamy chicken soup, chicken pot pie, and any other recipe that calls for a cream soup base.
**Note: You can substitute beef broth, beef bouillon, or even vegetable broth to change up the flavors.
