The number one requested breakfast in our home is a plate full of fluffy pancakes with sweet syrup. I could buy a new bottle of pancake syrup each week, but that would use up a lot of extra plastic (which we try our best to avoid) and it would be an additional expense on our grocery bill. Instead of buying syrup for my hungry husband and kiddos, I make my own homemade pancake syrup!

Delicious Homemade Vanilla Butter Pancake Syrup

Did you know that you can make your own homemade pancake syrup with basic pantry staples? Whip up this simple vanilla butter syrup recipe for your next pancake breakfast.

Pancake Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water or milk {milk if you want a creamy syrup}
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 TBSP honey
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda {can substitute 1 1/2 tsp baking powder}
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

 1. Combine first four ingredients

Add water or milk, sugar, honey, and butter to a medium sauce pan. *Reduce the amount of water/milk if you want a thicker syrup.

2. Boil

Boil for 2-3 minutes over medium-high heat. Whisk gently to avoid scorching.

3. Remove from heat

Remove the sauce pan from heat and add the baking soda and vanilla extract. Add the baking soda slowly because it will cause the entire mixture to bubble up. If you do not have baking soda, you can use 1 1/2 tsp baking powder instead.

4. Whisk

Whisk to incorporate all ingredients in this pancake syrup recipe.

5. Let it rest

The mix will bubble when stirred so you can let it rest for a few minutes to allow the bubbles to settle.

6. Use or Store

You can use this syrup immediately over homemade fluffy pancakes or store in a jar in the fridge. If you like warm syrup, you can reheat it or use it straight out of the refrigerator.
