Create a natural home fragrance with this forest spice simmer pot recipe!

If you know my family, you know we love to spend time in the woods. Camping, hiking, hunting, and relaxing under the canopy are some of our favorite pastimes. There’s a restorative and grounding kind of peace that I find when I’m out there— a reminder that creation doesn’t rush, and neither should we.

This forest spice simmer pot brings a little bit of the peaceful woodland into our home. It’s the blend I reach for when life feels loud, when the house feels unsettled, or when I want our home to feel anchored and calm. It smells like evergreens and warm spice with a hint of citrus. It is my favorite among all my simmer pot recipes.

More than anything, this is a scent that invites you to slow down.

Why I Love This Simmer Pot

This blend feels different from sweet or citrusy scents. It’s deeper. Earthier. It has a way of settling the atmosphere in the home, especially during the winter months when we’re inside more often.

I often use this simmer pot during Advent, on gray days, or when I’m craving a sense of order and peace.

Ingredients:

  • Evergreen Clippings- I use Pine & Cedar**
  • 1/4 cup cranberries
  • 1/2 orange- sliced
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick

**If you don’t have fresh evergreen clippings, dried needles or even rosemary make a good substitute.

Forest Spice Simmer Pot Instructions:

STEP ONE: Add Ingredients

Place all ingredients into a small-medium pot and cover with water.

STEP TWO: Simmer

Bring to a gentle simmer over low heat. As the water warms, the steam will carry the scent through your home. Listen a few minutes into the simmer, because the cranberries will start to pop. I love that part.

STEP THREE: Refill

Keep the heat low and check the pot occasionally, adding more water as needed. I often let this simmer for several hours while I’m home. Just don’t forget to turn it off if you are leaving the house.

You can reuse the same ingredients for a day or two before composting them.

Simmer Pot Ingredient Options

This recipe works beautifully with either fresh or dried ingredients. Use whichever you have on hand. You can dehydrate oranges and cranberries to use later, add to a bag as a gift, or sell. You can make other substitutions as well– Don’t have cinnamon sticks? Use ground cinnamon. Same with the cloves. Store dehydrated ingredients in a jar or a sealable bag for later.

Other Simmer Pot Recipes

Caring for our homes doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful. Small choices—like adding intentional & natural fragrances- are acts of stewardship. It’s a simple way of honoring the space God has given to us and the people who live within it.

May this simple simmer pot help your home feel steady, grounded, and peaceful.
